Tips on Designing Your Own Canopies
Published on Tuesday, 23 March 2010
Pre-built canopies can help you design one for your home. Choosing one can be a daunting task though. But as long as you have a design in mind, the task of looking for a canopy will be easier. Here are a few things that you should bear in mind if you decide to build and design your own canopies.
Know what type of pipe you need
The pipe diameter will help you have the canopy size you need. Typically an 18-inch width and 20-inch length frame (or any size lower than that) will require you to have a pipe that is 1 and 3/8 inch in diameter. For 20 by 20 inch width and length on the other hand, you need a pipe with a 1 and 5/8 inch diameter.
Next to the pipe diameter is the pipe gauge. This is the thickness of the pipe and can be crucial to how sturdy your canopy will be. In here, you have to bear in mind that having a number larger than 18 is not ideal. As the tubing gauge number increases, the thickness of the pipe decreases.
Know the various canopy angles
There are three main types or styles - the flat roof, high peak and low peak. The flat roof version has a 90-degree angle and is ideal for one-time or short-term events only. The high-peak angle is more of an A-frame with a 120-degree angle and is the most popular amongst the three. It's good for snow and water shedding. Lastly, the low peak angle which is 110 degrees is suggested if you're neighbourhood doesn't want objects showing above the lines of your fences.
Once you've followed the tips mentioned above, it will be easier for you to design your own canopy. Lay down your plan and start building the canopy that matches your taste.
